An 11-year-old boy who was reported missing on Thursday in Southwest Dallas has been found safe.

Traveon Griffin had walked away from his home on Naravista Drive while wearing shorts and no shirt. He left after a dispute with his family. Police considered the case to be "critical" because Thursday night's temperatures dipped into the 20's. They did not suspect any foul play in the case but said Traveon may have been confused.

Officers searched the area overnight Thursday into this morning, then brought in search dogs and volunteers.

The situation was resolved this afternoon when a woman who lives in the neighborhood contacted the police. She found someone hiding in the garage.

"It turned out to be Traveon Griffin", said DPD Sergeant Warren Mitchell. "He was still just wearing black shorts. The homeowner gave him some clothes and also gave him a little food and drink."

Griffin did not appear to be injured.

"He was evaluated by Dallas Fire Rescue here at the scene and he appeared to be ok," Sgt. Mitchell said. He was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Police say a child does live at the home where Griffin was found, but investigators don't know if the child knew he was in the garage. Officers had visited the home during their search, but the homeowner told police the garage door had been open at some point on Thursday and it’s possible Griffin entered during that time.
