An organization that connects veterans with employers is hosting a job fair Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. RecruitMilitary is expecting more than 80 companies for the event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
RecruitMilitary says more than 26,000 veterans have attended 56 job fairs in North Texas.
"When civilian companies hire civilians straight out of college or high school, they've got to train them and work with them. That's not a bad thing, but why not hire a veteran who already has that skill set and soft skills?" says RecruitMilitary's Allen Von Plinsky.
Von Plinsky says those soft skills include an ability to adapt quickly, solve problems and work well in groups.
"The civilian world is not necessarily life and death-type scenarios like the military is. That's what drives veterans to be so cohesive and loyal to each other," he says.
Registration is not required, but veterans are encouraged to upload their resume. Details are available here!
According to the Department of Labor, the unemployment rate among veterans dropped about one percent last month, from 4.8% in June to 3.9% in July. The unemployment rate among non-veterans was 5.4%.
"It's getting better, but that's why we keep pushing these events, and that's why we were so happy to get back into the physical events starting back in June," Von Plinsky says.
The job fair at AT&T Stadium runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free parking is available in Lot 10, and those attending can enter the stadium through Entry J.
