In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

OUR FEATURED PET ZEUS HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Meet Zeus! He is a Terrier, Pit Bull mix with white fir and spots all over. He is a big guy at over 90 pounds, but quite the loving gentle giant. He is almost 7 years old and more than ready to find a forever home and a loving family. Zeus is quite the intelligent dog, and knows commands like “sit,” “shake,” and he will wait very patiently for treats and take them very gently. Most of all, he loves to spend time with people, and doesn’t really like being left alone. He would love to have a big backyard with a secured fence, but it would need to be a solid fence as Zeus has figured out how to climb chain link. Zeus is waiting at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to come on out and meet him in person.

Meet Arlo! UPDATE: Arlo has been adopted!

He has seniority among all the dogs at the SPCA of Texas’ Ellis County Animal Care Center (2570 FM Road 878, Waxahachie, TX 75165). He came in as a stray on the last day of August and wants to go out as the newest member of a loving family. While he started out on his own, Arlo is definitely a family man. He is a snuggler extraordinaire, and he likes to run and play a bit too before running back immediately for more hugs. He needed just a little bit of veterinary care when he first arrived, but now he is fit as a fiddle and ready to go out and live his best life. He is a mixed-breed dog at 28 pounds and is just over two years of age. He’s a handsome little fella with golden brown hair and big puppy dog eyes.

Meet Sheba!

Meet Sheba! She is a gorgeous Dutch Shepherd mix waiting for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Sheba is 2-and-a-half years old and weighs 60 pounds. Her coat is a luxurious brindle pattern of browns and black. Unfortunately, Sheba was not treated very well in the first round of life, so it takes a few minutes for her to warm up to new strangers. When she has become comfortable whoever, she is an affectionate little pooch who loves to be scratched and doted on. She would love to go to a calm home where she can acclimate to a new and wonderful life. She’d prefer a home where all the kids are over 12 years old. She is at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet with her.

Meet Leo!

He’s a mixed breed dog waiting for his forever home at the SPCA of Texas. Leo has white fur with brown spots, including the proverbial patch over one eye on his face. He’s a big boy at 65 pounds and he is just over 3 years old. Leo is a friendly enough guy, but he needs a slow introduction. He came to the SPCA of Texas from an animal cruelty case. He’s made great strides and looks forward to fun times ahead, and a home with a calm environment would give him a sense of security for the transition. He’s good with kids over the age of 5, and does well with other dogs too. Leo is currently housed at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet him in person.

Meet Caroline! UPDATE: Caroline has been adopted!

Meet Caroline! She is a 6-year-old kitty with an attractive and soft black, gray and white coat. She is a Domestic Shorthair mix and weighs in at only 5 pounds. Caroline is a bit of a shy girl. So she is hoping to acclimate to a new home with a calm and quiet environment. As her former owner discovered, kids are a bit scary for her, so she would do best in a home with older teens and adults. She is also very afraid of dogs. Give her a canine-free home and she’ll do her best to provide all the furry fun and cuteness you will need. Sweet Caroline is waiting for her forever home at the Jan Rees-Jones AnimalCare Center in Dallas. No appointment is necessary to meet her, just swing by any day between noon and 6 p.m.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.

Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
