In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet Frito, our featured pet pal! UPDATE: Frito has been adopted!

Frito is 2-year-old male Pit Bull mix. The words "adorable" "sweet" and goofy" get thrown around a lot when he’s around. He is a sucker for treats and playing in the yard with toys, especially balls. He likes his friends at the shelter but is hoping he can land himself a new home sweet home, as he hears those are pretty cool. Frito would like to be the star of the show in his new home, but he can try meeting any dogs who'd be sharing his new digs. There is no appointment necessary to come and meet Frito, just swing by the shelter an day between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. https://spca.org/adoptable/frito/

Meet Howie

Howie is a good ole’ boy who is hoping to find a forever home with a great family. He is an older dog at 7 years, and he is really hoping to find the perfect place to live out his golden years. Howie is not too picky about what kind of home and family he wants to go to, but he does need his space as he is a mix between a Great Pyrenees and Anatolian Shepherd and weighs a whopping 75 pounds.

He has a wise and friendly face with a big smile. His fur is white with large taupe patches and dark highlights around the eyes. Howie was found as a stray in Ellis County, and never wants to be alone again. Howie seems to get along with kids, other dogs, and just about anyone who is friendly.

Meet Jamenson!

Jamenson often spends time in staff offices at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center as he is such a chill and well-behaved young gentleman. He is a Terrier and American Pit Bull mix with a dapper coat of grey fur with a white underside. He’s kind of a big guy at 63 pounds. Jamenson is 8-and-a-half years young and has had plenty of time learn respectable behavior, he recently appeared on live TV and even a bucket of snakes wasn’t enough to get him to break character.

When he’s out in the play yard he can still get pretty excited and rambunctious when appropriate. It would be nice for him to have a big fenced yard to romp around in, but truth be told Jamenson really isn’t that picky. He’s in it for the love and has a lot to give.

Meet Coco Bear! UPDATE: Coco Bear has been adopted!

Coco Bear was a big hit at the annual Fur Ball black tie dinner held at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas. She is a German Shepherd mix with tan fur and a darkened face and weighs in at 57 pounds. She is just over 2 years old so she’s still quite the young lady. Many dogs coming from the shelter can be a little shy at first meeting, and Coco Bear is definitely not one of them. She loves to greet new people and seems to do quite well with other dogs too. She’s a mushy little princess and loves to cuddle up.

She came to the SPCA of Texas as part of an animal cruelty case and has remarkably high spirits in the shelter. She is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so a prior appointment is necessary to meet her in person.

Meet Curry! UPDATE: Curry has been adopted!

Curry is a spicy little cat currently hanging out at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center but hoping for some new digs soon. He is a Domestic Shorthair mix who is just over a year-and-a-half old and 6 pounds. He has a really nice coat of black fur with white underneath and some serious whiskers happening too. While he can certainly be an energetic little cat, Curry is somewhat on the shy side when he meets new people. He would need to have some calm and serenity when he first finds his way into a new environment.

He’d prefer to be in a home where all the kiddos are at least 12 years of age. There is no appointment necessary to come and meet Curry, just swing by the shelter an day between the hours of noon and 6 p.m.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
