In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.
KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.
Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Jango! UPDATE: Jango has been adopted!
Jango is a 4-year-old male Shepherd mix who is always super excited to meet new people! He loves making new friends, playing, and getting snacks. It would be awesome to have a home with a yard for his zoomies, but more than anything he just wants a home where he is loved. He’d rather be the only dog in your heart and home, so he’ll need to be the only dog in the home. He would love to meet human friends of all ages before his adoption is complete and your new family rides off into the sunset! There is no appointment necessary to come and meet Jango, just swing by the shelter an day between the hours of noon and 6 p.m. https://spca.org/adoptable/jango/
Meet Henry!
He is a jolly little fellow waiting for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Henry is a 45-pound mixed-breed dog with an attractive coat of golden-brown hair. He has big puppy dog eyes and a devilish grin that sometimes seems a little mischievous. Henry is 5-and-a-half years old, so he is quite playful but out of the silly puppy phase. He seems to do just fine with children under 12 and other dogs too, so he might be a perfect addition to an already-dog-friendly abode. His positive demeanor is quite admirable as he came to the SPCA of Texas from a hoarding case in Kaufman County back in March. Henry is currently in foster care, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him in person.
Meet Irwin!
He is a funny little Terrier, Pit Bull mix of almost 3-and-a half years. He only weighs 49 pounds, which is a little on the light side for a Pittie. He comes with a coat of black fur with a white underside. Irwin has been through a foster stint, with the foster noting he loves to snuggle and is quite curious, so he enjoys just exploring too. He also has an adorable little snore when he is napping. He has a great disposition for a pup who came from an animal cruelty case back in May of last year. When he arrived, he needed medical treatment for a skin condition and his eyes but has done quite well since. He is currently housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center so an advanced appointment is necessary to meet with him in person.
Meet Critter!
He’s a Boxer mix hoping to find a good human or two to hang out with on a permanent basis. He’s a sweet guy of 3 years and weighs in at 45 pounds, just barely over the “big doggie” mark. He has a beautiful brown coat with a little white underneath and a little black on the snoot. He’s not too picky about what kind of home he goes to as long as there is plenty of love. If there was a yard, it should be securely fenced. An apartment would be okay if there was access to exercise nearby. Critter seems to do fine around children, so bring any in for a meet-and-greet before an adoption takes place. There is no appointment necessary to meet Critter, just swing by the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center any day between noon and 6 p.m.
Meet Smokey! UPDATE: Smokey has been adopted!
This week’s kitty offering is actually a two-for. Smokey is a 2-year-old male Domestic Shorthair mix who is pair-bonded with his sister Bisky. They need to find a home together. They were found as kittens and a Good Samaritan took care of them until they were 16 weeks old, then they were brought into the care of the SPCA of Texas. Both cats are also FIV-positive, which is now a completely manageable condition in the feline world. However, they need to go to a home with no other cats, or cats who are also FIV-positive. Smokey and his sister show no signs of illness and have a lot of life and love to offer to the right people. They are at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center and no appointment is necessary to meet them.
KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
