In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet this week's featured Pet Pal, Nexsen!

Meet Tera!

Meet Tera! She is quite the attractive little 5-year-old Shepherd mix who is available for adoption from the SPCA of Texas. She is very friendly and does her best to be a well-behaved young lady. Normally it doesn’t take much to get Tera up and playful, but she has recently received treatment for heartworms, so she will need to be on exercise restrictions for a little bit, then she’ll be back to her perky self in no time at all. Tera will be waiting at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center so no appointment is necessary. She can be visited any day between Noon and 6 p.m..

Meet Rosco!

Meet Rosco! This dog is dedicated to the art of having fun. He is an Australian Cattle Dog mix who is black and white in color, 50 pounds in weight and 7-and-a-half years in age. He also comes equipped with one of the most sly little grins you’ll ever see (it gets even bigger when he knows he’s going outside). Rosco can be a very active and athletic dog, but he also likes to chill out and take it easy for a while too. He does well with other dogs and children too. Bring the whole family down to the Dallas Animal Care Center for a meet-and-greet. He’s available any day between Noon and 6 p.m.

Meet Buster!

Meet Buster! He’s a big ole’ boy and a jolly little soul. Buster is a 60-pound Pittie mix with quite a refined-looking dappled brown coat with a white underside and a cute little white spot on his forehead. Buster is a fun-loving dog, and is quite popular with the other pooches in play groups at the shelter. He would likely be good with kids too, though he hasn’t had interaction with any in the shelter environment. A meet-and-greet can fix that. Buster is currently at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so a prior appointment is necessary to meet him in person. Find his profile at SPCA.org/dogs and click the “make an Appointment” button today.

Meet Ben Kenobi!

Meet Ben Kenobi! Ben is a Domestic Shorthair mix who is waiting for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. He is just over 5 years old and is a little on the small side. He has a white coat of fur with some dappled grey on the back of his head and tail. Ben Kenobi is a pretty sweet boy, but he is still a little on the shy side and will need a bit to warm up to new people. He is hoping to go to a calm home where he will have time to adjust. Ben would prefer to be the star of the show and the only cat in the home, with all kiddos being at least 15 years old. He is housed at the Dallas Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster, and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
