In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, Newsradio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption.

KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlight the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet our featured pet pal, Sasha!

Sasha Banks is a one-year-old female mixed breed dog who weighs around 49 pounds. She may have some Weimaraner in her, as her coat is a gorgeous silvery golden gray color. And she is just as sweet, and sassy as can be. She would do well with other dogs and also human kiddos, so please do bring them to the shelter for a meet-and-greet with Sasha Banks before you sweep her off her feet and make her the newest member of your family. She is also smart, fun-loving, and easy going. She is at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, so no appointment is necessary to meet her. Just come on by 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas any day of the week between noon and 6 p.m.

Meet Leyland!

She a very active and happy little pup waiting for her new family at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas. Leyland is a mixed breed doggie who is just under a year old and weighs in at 40 pounds. There a few subtle shades of brown in her coat, and her big eyes match it quite fashionably. Leyland loves to play with just about anyone who will take the time to take her out into the yard. She gets along well with other dogs and seems to be good with kids too. She was transferred in to the SPCA of Texas from Dallas Animal Services in October. There is no appointment necessary to meet her, just swing by any day between noon and 6 p.m.

Meet Wedge!

He is a Labrador Retriever mix waiting for a forever home with the SPCA of Texas. Wedge is 3 years old, and he’s sort of a big guy at 71 pounds. He’s got a rather smashing short coat of dark brown over white fur. Wedge is a friendly enough guy, but might be a little unsure of meeting a new person for the first time. After proper introductions, Wedge’s playful side comes out. He likes to go for walks, play ball or just frolic around the play yard. Wedge came to the SPCA of Texas in October as a stray, and is hoping to leave the shelter as a loved member of a new family. Wedge is housed at the SPCA of Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center. It is open Tuesday-Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

Meet June!

She is named after a hot summer month, but this cool girl can bring love and happiness into a home all year round. June is a Terrier, Pit Bull mix who is 1 year old and weighs in at 33 pounds. She is covered in a light brown coat to match her big puppy dog eyes. She can be a shy girl when you first meet her, but that playful puppy is just waiting to come out and shine. June came to the SPCA of Texas as a stray from the unincorporated areas of Dallas County. She is quite done with the homeless life and vey much looks forward to being part of a loving family. She is housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center, so an appointment is necessary to meet her.

Meet Elizabeth! UPDATE: Elizabeth has been adopted!

She is a dainty and shy little lady who needs to find a good forever home. Elizabeth only weighs 6 pounds, and at 4 years of age that’s about as big as she’s going to get. She is a Domestic Shorthair mix with a cool striped fur pattern and big, wondering eyes. She would prefer a calm and serene environment, especially as she is acclimating to a new home. It is best if she goes to a home with a friendly confident cat already there to show her the ropes. As she is a bit shy, she’d like to find a home where all the kids are at least 12 years old and know how to properly treat a cat. She is at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center so no appointment is necessary to meet her.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.
