In partnership with the SPCA of Texas, NewsRadio 1080 KRLD brings you 'Adoptable Pet Pals,' a weekly feature to introduce you to animals that are ready for adoption. KRLD's Kristin Diaz along with Maura Davies from the SPCA highlights the critical need for adopting families at local animal shelters by showcasing an "Adoptable Pet Pal" that has stayed at the shelter too long.

Meet Sir Mondo, our featured pet pal this week in the video player above!

Meet Sir Mondo! He's 6-years-old, was brought in as a stray last November, and is described as "a 90+ pound big old lump of handsome." He's sweet, playful, fun, and knows to sit. He would fit well within a family with kids and/or other dogs. If you have kids or other dogs, you'll want to bring them down to the shelter to introduce them to Sir Mondo. To meet Sir Mondo, come and visit him at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas any day between noon and 6 p.m.

This week's 'Adoptable Pet Pals:'

Rocket
UPDATE: Rocket has been adopted

Meet Rocket! This is a dog who makes a great effort in living up to his name. He is a pointer mix who is almost 9 years old and weighs 53 pounds. He is almost all white, with some black patches here and there. Rocket is a very energetic pooch, especially for a dog his age. He is a bit shy when meeting new people, but after that (and a few treats along the way) he is fun to watch and play with, but only for an adult. Rocket is a happy-go-lucky guy for grown-ups, but he doesn’t seem to like children. For that reason, it would be best for him to be placed into a home where everyone is over the age of 18. He might do well with other pets, so it would be best to bring them by the shelter for a meet-and-greet before the adoption takes place. Rocket is waiting for his forever home at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas.

Bronco UPDATE: This pet pal has been adopted and is in a forever home! Bronco was adopted by a couple and has a new sister.

Meet Bronco! Bronco is a bouncy little Australian Cattle Dog mix that loves to prance and play. She is less than a year old, so that youthful energy is going to be around for a while. She has dark fur with tan highlights, weighs in at 34 pounds, and is just about as cute as she can be. Bronco came to the SPCA from an animal cruelty seizure in Van Zandt County. As such, she is a little timid when first encountering new people or animals. She has recovered well from the alopecia and dermatitis she was suffering from on arrival, as well as lesions from past trauma. She hasn’t let that past hold her back though, as can be seen by simply taking her out into the dog run and letting her go! It is best for Bronco to find a good home that is calm and nurturing. Bronco is currently housed at the Russell E. Dealey Animal Rescue Center.

Rory
UPDATE: Rory has been adopted

Meet Rory! He is an older cat looking for a forever home at the SPCA of Texas.  He is a Domestic Shorthair mix who is over five years old and weighs in at 17 pounds. He has white and grey fur with unique marking patterns. Rory came to the SPCA of Texas from another shelter after his original owner ran into landlord and insurance issues surrounding his residency. He is a very strong-minded and particular cat who would prefer to be the only pet in the home. He has had issues in the past with becoming overstimulated and a calm, quiet home would be the best place for him. He would also love to have a home in which there are no children under the age of 15. He does very well with cat wands, and he has also been declawed in his front paws. Rory is waiting for his forever home at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center.

Miracle
UPDATE: Miracle has been adopted

Meet Miracle

Meet Miracle! It truly is a miracle that this cat is alive and doing as well as she is. She was the victim of abuse until some Good Samaritans stepped in and spoke up. Then she came into the care of the SPCA of Texas. Due to her past, Miracle is blind in one eye, but that doesn’t stop her from having a good time. She also has a history of seizures and is on special medication. She is energetic, affectionate and seems to have a remarkably positive outlook on life. She needs a home free of other animals so she can have her own space until she is comfortable with her new surroundings. She is a beautiful Domestic Shorthair mix with black fur and a white underside. She is a year and nine months old and comes in at a light 10 pounds. Miracle is currently residing in foster care, so call in to the SPCA of Texas at 214-742-7722 to set up an appointment to meet her in person.

Regular adoption fees are $150 for puppies and kittens aged 0-6 months and $75 for adult dogs and cats aged 6 months or older. Fee includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months and older and a FIV/FeLV test for cats 4 months and older, initial flea/tick preventative and heartworm preventative, a microchip, 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, a rabies tag and a free leash.

Jan-Rees Jones Animal Care Center is open for adoptions every day from noon to 6 p.m. Animals are available by walk-in on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments are also available for select animals. Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
