Meet Jimbo! He is a mixed breed dog who weighs in at 54 pounds. He is just over four years old and has white fur with tan patches around the ears. Jimbo is a lively little fellow who loves attention. He is quite playful, but he also likes to curl up and snuggle. He loves treats and is very easy to bribe with a little tasty encouragement. He’ll even do his best “sit” to impress you. Jimbo might do well with other dogs, any potential adopters should bring them to meet him. Jimbo would love to have a big backyard to play in, but it would need to be enclosed with a fence at least seven feet tall because this little dude can jump higher than most dogs. Jimbo is at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas and can be visited on any given day without an appointment.

UPDATE: Sway was ADOPTED!

Meet Sway

Meet Sway! She is one of the most beautiful German Shepherds you will come across. She is five-and-a-half years old and weighs 68 pounds. Sway is a very athletic dog and loves to blaze a trail across the doggie yard. She is also very adept at playing fetch with people. She knows basic play yard commands and really enjoys quality time together. Sway came to the SPCA from an animal cruelty surrender in Dallas, and she can still be timid when encountering a new person for the first time. However, she warms up with time, patience, a few treats, and tennis balls. Sway likes all the attention, so it is best if she is the only dog in the home. She would also prefer to live in a mature environment, so all kids in the home should be at least 12 years of age, and everyone should meet her before the adoption.

Big John
UPDATE: Big John has been adopted

Meet Big John! He is an eight-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs in at a whopping 71 pounds. Big John is a chill character, and his rambunctious days are behind him. He would love to find a relaxed, calm home with good people who can show him a lot of love. Big John was found as a stray at a gas station in Ennis and brought into the care of the SPCA of Texas. He would be happiest if he was the only dog in the home. He wants his humans all to himself. Big John has recently completed his treatment for heartworms, so he is still on exercise restrictions and will need to return to the shelter for a check-up in April 2023. Big John is looking forward to meeting his forever family and is patiently waiting at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas. No appointment is necessary to meet him.

Penny was ADOPTED!

Meet Penny! She is a dainty little cat who is three years old and only weighs five pounds. She is a Domestic Shorthair mix with a dappled coat of grey, orange and cream-colored fur. Despite her petite stature, she also has a cute little round belly. She loves to play with feathered wand toys, stare curiously out of windows and hang out in the perch of a cat tree. Penny came to the SPCA of Texas from an animal cruelty case in January of last year. She has made great progress but is still a bit timid when meeting new people for the first time. It usually doesn’t take too long before the initial hand-sniffing happens. A quiet, laid-back home where everyone is over the age of 12 would give her the opportunity to acclimate and settle in. She is also a social cat, so she needs another feline companion.

Shay was ADOPTED!

Meet Shay! She is the matriarch of the cat rotunda at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas. Shay is a 10-year-old Domestic Shorthair mix who would very much like to find her forever home as soon as possible. While an older cat, Shay is still quite energetic and playful. She has white fur with large patches of black and orange thrown in. Shay is a very affectionate cat, and she will occupy a lap for about as long as you will let her. Shay doesn’t take very long at all to get to know new people, but a calm home would be great for allowing Shay to get comfortable in a new place. A cat tree would be wonderful too. Shay is an FIV-positive cat, which is a completely manageable condition. However, Shay would need to be the only cat in the home, or be paired up with another cat who is also FIV-positive.

The Jan-Rees Jones Animal Care Center is open to visitors seven days a week from 12-6 p.m. Appointments are available for select foster animals. Please browse available animals at spca.org/findapet and visit spca.org/dogadopt to inquire about a dog or spca.org/catadopt to inquire about a cat.

KRLD values the connection between animals and people. Through the incredible selflessness of animal advocates who rescue, rehabilitate, foster and adopt animals, we hope to be partners in finding safe and forever homes for these animals in need.
