A suspected hit and run drunk driver has been indicted for manslaughter and an accident involving a death for a fatal accident that happened about the time the New Year was ringing in, court records show.

Matthew Bradley Smith, 44 Dallas, is being held on an $801,000 bond.

Smith has a long prior arrest record, according to court records.

Smith had posted bail for his third drunk driving arrest when Dallas police say he drove the wrong way on Commerce Street during the New Year celebration. Police say Smith struck and killed Dill Chainy, who was watching the fireworks display in Deep Ellum.

Witnesses told police the pickup truck fled the scene with one person snapping a picture that police used to arrest Smith about two weeks later.
