Amazon is rolling out its new all-electric delivery vans in north Texas. The company debuted the distinctive blue vans last fall as part of its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

"Amazon made a commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2040," said Ross Rachey, Director of Amazon's Global Fleet and Products.   "Electrifying our fleet is going to help us get there."

North Texas will be the sixth market for the electric vans. Company officials say the region was chosen, in part, because of the triple-digit temperatures that are usually a part of the Texas summer.

"We’ve been looking forward to putting these vehicles up against the Dallas and Fort Worth summer heat," said Rachey. "We can’t wait for the warm Texas welcome from our customers."

Amazon unveiled the blue vans for its Texas customers during an event in the Fort Worth Stockyards. They will be used on routes based out of one of the company's Fort Worth delivery stations to ship packages to customers across the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Amazon plans to have the electric vans on the road in 16 markets by early next year. They can travel 150 miles on a single charge and were developed in a partnership with Rivian.
