American Airlines and the union that represents its pilots say they have reached a tentative deal, averting a possible pilot strike.
The deal was announced this morning by the Allied Pilots Association Negotiating Committee, but its members have not seen the deal yet, and for that reason the details are not being announced.
"As required by the APA Policy Manual Section 9.06, we will move forward with completing contractual language for all sections and related letters and for the implementation schedule. Once that requirement is fulfilled, the Negotiating Committee will present the AIP to the APA Board of Directors for consideration as a proposed tentative agreement (TA) at least seven days prior to any meeting convened to consider the TA" the union said on its website.
The pilots had authorized a strike earlier this month, and American Arilines CEO Robert Isom has said they would at least match other deals that other airlines had with their pilots.
Dennis Tajer of the APA says that's important to remain competitive.
"Every airline is battling to hire piliots, and there is a limited supply out there. And a contract that is deemed at least at industry market rates and quality of life, if not leading in a few areas, will draw new pilots in" said Tajer.
The deal would cover nearly 15,000 pilots. No vote date has been set and the company has not yet responded to KRLD's request for comment.
