With more than half of U.S. adults at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19, infection rates have dropped significantly. But in some states, the rate of infection among unvaccinated individuals continues to rival that seen during the peak months of the pandemic last winter.
As we begin the summer of 2021, younger adults - especially those in the 18-34 age group - remain reluctant in embracing the vaccine. Health experts are working to convince those holdouts that getting the shot will allow them to enjoy the summer months and allow more Americans to lead a more active, normal and safe lifestyle.
Meanwhile, while most restrictions have been relaxed, many Americans say they will continue to wear protective masks, which are shown to be effective in the fight against the common cold and the flu, both of which were noted at dramatically lower rates during the pandemic.
KRLD's Chris Sommer talked with Dr. Ross McKinney, Chief Scientific Officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges.
