President Joe Biden's plan to terminate the Trump-era policy called "Remain in Mexico" has been temporarily blocked by a federal judge in Amarillo.
Under the policy, enacted in 2019, asylum-seekers have been sent to Mexico to wait out proceedings in their cases.
President Biden moved to end the policy but Texas and Missouri took legal action to prevent the President from ending it.
However, in June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Biden could end Remain in Mexico, saying trying to rescind it did not violate federal immigration law.
At the same time, the High Court returned the case to the lower federal court for additional action and it is that court that has now, temporarily at least, stopped the Biden administration from terminating Remain in Mexico.
It should be noted this policy is separate from Title 42, another Trump-era immigration policy that remains set to end next week.
