A crash involving a semi-truck carrying 35,000 pounds of eggs shut down westbound I-30 for about 10 hours on Monday. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department says a semi-truck headed west on I-30 hit a bridge just past the I-45 interchange in the Downtown Dallas Canyon at about 4 a.m.
When the truck crashed, cartons of eggs dropped to the pavement, cracking and spilling yolks onto the highway. TxDOT worked with the sheriff's department to shut down all westbound lanes.
"Our law enforcement partners are certainly valuable partners," said TxDOT's Kenna Mitchell. "Anytime there is an incident on the highway, we work very closely together for traffic management."

Mitchell says the broken eggs made the highway unsafe. TxDOT called in an outside contractor because specialized cleaning was needed.
"It involved a lot of absorbent material, power-washing because all those eggs left a really slick surface out there," Mitchell said. "We're trying to make sure everything is removed and no problems remain."
One lane opened at about 2 p.m. on Monday. Mitchell says lanes would open one at a time as cleaning continues, so delays were likely to continue through the afternoon.
The driver of the truck was not hurt.
