Police in Burleson say that a suspected carjacker who shot at a woman on a busy freeway in a case of road rage is now in the hospital.

The incident happened Tuesday night on southbound I-35W just before the Renfro St. exit.

"The suspect vehicle cut in front of the other person, and they flashed their bright lights," Burleson deputy police chief Doug Sandifer said. "And then that person displayed a handgun out the window and fired several shots back at them, and nobody was hit, nobody was injured."

Still, police shut down all southbound lanes for a period of time following the shooting.

"We closed it until we could walk it and recover some evidence if there was any evidence out there," says Sandifer. "And we did recover some shell casings."

The suspect vehicle came back as stolen out of Irving.

The man then continued south on I-35W to Itasca, where police there say he carjacked a man at a gas station.

Itasca Police say he then crashed the car that he stole in that carjacking and is hospitalized in Waco.

The details surrounding the subsequent crash are unclear at this time.

Sandifer says the man may also be responsible for a similar road rage incident in Fort Worth.

The man will be facing at least 11 charges in Itasca, along with those he will be facing in Burleson and elsewhere.
