Car thief who ran red light and killed someone pleads guilty for murder

DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- A Dallas man who stole a car, ran a red light and then killed someone has pleaded guilty to a murder charge.

Joseph Warren, 30 Dallas, stole a car from a convenience store near Love Field Nov. 1, 2021. He then drove to Carrollton.  According to police, Warren blew through a red light, slamming into a car, killing Rohit Khanna, 29, a graduate student.  Two passengers were critically injured.

Carrollton police, who had an officer nearby, were on the scene in less than a minute. However, a police department spokeswoman said there was nothing that could be done to save Khanna.

Now Warren has pleaded guilty to a murder charge. He was sentenced to 40-years in prison. As part of the deal...Warren gave up his right to appeal.
