Some Carrollton residents got a restful night's sleep thanks to a police officer who is not afraid of snakes.
Last night, police got a call from someone who lives at the Ellis Apartments on Old Denton Road just north of Hebron Parkway. The caller had come home only to find a big, fat snake blocking their entryway.
Dispatch sent Officer Bailey who is known to be fearless when it comes to picking up critters. She came out, scooped up the snake and gently released it in Indian Creek which runs just behind the complex.
Police spokeswoman Jolene DeVito says they believe it was a rat snake, that was at least six feet long. Rat snakes are actually quite harmless to people and pets and are very valuable in holding down the population of rats. And other vermin, too.
