The CDC has raised the COVID-19 risk level to red in several North Texas counties because of the uptick in new COVID cases.

Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties are listed as red, meanwhile Denton County is still listed at the yellow level.

Under the red designation, which signifies high community spread, the CDC recommends that everyone wear masks indoors and on public transit.

Dr. Joseph Chang medical director at Parkland Hospital in Dallas says one of the problems is apathy.

The newly detected BA.5, recently took over as the dominant COVID-19 strain in the U.S., but does appear to cause less severe disease than its predecessors.
