The Weatherford College pitcher who leveled a North Central Texas College player who had just hit a home run off of him has been kicked off the team.
Weatherford College says sophomore Owen Woodward was also disciplined by the school's student services office; but citing privacy laws, the school did not go into further detail.
On Thursday, the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference suspended Woodward for four games and North Central's Josh Phillips for two games for taunting Woodward during his home run trot, prompting the reaction.
Wednesday's game between the two teams - the first of a scheduled doubleheader - has been declared a double forfeit, and North Central will actually forfeit their subsequent two games to Weatherford.
After Woodward leveled Phillips, almost the entire North Central squad ran onto the field in his defense.
Under NJCAA rules, anyone leaving the dugout during an on-field altercation is automatically suspended two games.
So without enough players to field a team for the next two games, North Central will have to forfeit them.
The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at North Central's home field in Gainesville; the teams will now play a single game.
