Construction is finally underway in Grand Prairie on the city's cricket stadium.

The ballpark formerly known as Airhogs Stadium opened in 2008 and had been sitting dormant since the Texas Airhogs folded in 2020. That November, the City of Grand Prairie announced that the facility would be converted from a baseball diamond to a cricket oval; and last week, the $20 million construction project got underway.

Tom Dunmore with Major League Cricket says the stadium will have about 8,000 seats with the ability to be expanded for major events. Construction is slated to be completed next spring, with cricket being played there next summer.
