Collin County commissioners heard from concerned citizens Monday, about a controversial bypass for Highway 380.

TxDot says the bypass is needed to ease congestion on the crowded highway.  Four proposed routes cut through northern Collin County cities like Prosper, McKinney and New Hope.

The plan calls for an eight-lane road, four lanes each way, with a service road on either side.

In Prosper, the "Segment B" proposal has many in the town upset. Bill Darling is CEO of ManeGait, a therapeutic horse-riding center for children, adults with disabilities and veterans. He says if this proposal is allowed to continue, it would be mere feet from the north entrance of the facility and would force them to shut their doors.

TxDot says a final decision on routes has not been reached.

There are still a number of studies, like environmental, that need to be done before a preferred route is chosen by early 2023.

When TxDot does make a decision there will be another round of public comment before a bypass route is ultimately decided.
