At the direction of the Fort Worth ISD Board of Education, Superintendent Kent P. Scribner issued a district wide mask mandate on Monday, but as soon as the mandate began...it was over.
The Fort Worth ISD students and staff started today wearing masks because the school board said they should. But on Monday afternoon, the 2nd Court of Appeals in Fort Worth decided the best course of action was to back Texas Governor Greg Abbott's executive order that bars school districts from implementing such mandates.

The FWISD trustees approved the resolution at a special board meeting on August 26, but implementation was halted by a temporary restraining order and subsequently a temporary injunction filed by four parents and granted by Tarrant County District Judge John Chupp.
Additionally, the Fort Worth ISD was granted a temporary injunction in Travis County that prohibits the governor from enforcing Executive Order GA-38, which prohibits governmental entities from mandating masks, against the District.
Warren Norred represents parents who oppose mask requirements in schools.
"It should reinstitute the temporary injunction to maintain the status quo, that is to say no mandate mask use by the Fort Worth ISD, and that they also have to let the teachers know that they can't implement teacher-level mask mandates either' says Norred.
It's the latest turn as the legal fights over masks make their way to the Texas Supreme Court, which will have the untimate say.
