State Representative John Turner says he will not run for re-election to a third term in office. He represents House District 114, which covers much of northern Dallas and some of the surrounding area.
Rep. Turner is a Democrat who was first elected in 2018. He posted a message about his intentions on his Facebook page, noting that serving in the Texas Legislature took time away from his full-time job and his family.
"I have a wonderful wife who works full-time as a professor, and two wonderful sons, ages 14 and 11. The next few years are an important time to be involved with my family, and that is much harder when one is away as often as legislative service requires," he wrote.
Turner plans to serve out the remainder of his current term, which runs through the end of 2022. That means he will be back in Austin when the Texas Legislature convenes for a special session on July 8th.
