Based in Dallas, federal magistrate Irma Carrillo Ramirez appears to be on track for confirmation to join the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th District which includes Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
On Wednesday, Ramirez was questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee. She pretty much sailed through the hearing and has a clear path to confirmation as early as this summer.
Ramirez had the backing of both US Senators from Texas who recommended Ramirez to President Biden.
Ramirez grew up in a small rural town about 40 miles southwest of Lubbock. After graduating from West Texas State University, she got her law degree from SMU.
The early years of her career she spent as a federal prosecutor and has been a federal magistrate in Dallas since 2002.
