Dallas County (1080 KRLD) - Judge Clay Jenkins is telling Dallas County residents to please mask up, to slow the spread of COVID-19.
As the Delta variant spreads, ICU beds are filling up, and in Dallas County, there aren't any available pediatric ICU beds for the children who need them.
"If your child has a heart defect, or needs an ICU Bed, or more likely if they have COVID and need an ICU bed, we don't have one. Your child will have to wait for another child to die," Jenkin's said.
Jenkins is urging all Dallas County residents to get vaccinated, and to wear a face mask while out in public so that anyone who needs an ICU bed can get one.
According to the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council, the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex contains about 1,550 ICU beds. Around 600 of those ICU beds are in Dallas County.
At the time of this writing, there aren't any ICU beds available for children, and only 17 ICU beds available for adults.
