Capital murder indictments have been returned in the Fourth of July shooting at a crowded block party near the High Five. Three were killed and another three were wounded in the spray of bullets.
Capital murder indictments were handed up against Akil Anderson, 19 Dallas, Taqualon Jones, 19 Dallas, Bryce Jones, 19 Rowlett, and Kejuan Lewis, 17 Grand Prairie.
The shooting claimed the lives of three from the Shreveport LA area. Alvin Murray III, 22, Hassan Blazer, 19, and Mi’Quarius Alexander were all in a car that was hit by the gunfire.
The shooting happened at a block party outside of the Hamilton Park area just as the fireworks show was ending. Hundreds were sent running out of fear for their lives. Police found 108 bullet casings littering the street across from the Pacesetter Magnet School.

Among the injured, Carolina Brown, 19 Rockwall, is still recovering. Her mother is still shaken by the shooting, which she says had nothing to do with her daughter who was at the park for the firework show.
“Those kids weren’t out there for a fight. They were out there enjoying fireworks and having a lot of fun,” said Sunnie Tyler. “She was staying away from the crowd. She wasn’t even in the crowd area. She was sitting on her car.”
Tyler says Brown was leaving because the fireworks were giving her anxiety when the gunshots rang out. The teen didn’t even know she was hit at first.
“As they were pulling off that’s when she thought she heard fireworks and she was hit. She looked down and saw a lot of blood,” Tyler said. Friends drove her directly to Medical City, which was less than a mile away. Brown suffered injuries to her leg and several internal organs.
The start of the fight could have sparked by jealousy over girls, Tyler said.
“The kids from Shreveport, they were very flashy. They were looking to meet girls and having fun. Whoever started shooting, they didn’t like that, for whatever reason….envy, jealousy.”
The indictments were returned as adult charges for all four men. In Texas capital murder carries only two possible penalties, the death sentence or life in prison without parole.
