The Dallas County District Attorney's office is making a last-ditch effort to find people whose civil rights may have been violated by police during the May 2020 George Floyd protests in Dallas. However, this is opening up fresh wounds with the police.

DA John Creuzot is releasing new police body camera video in an effort to track down witnesses who may have unseen videos of three different protesters getting shot with non-lethal ammunition. One lost his eye.

A central question: Over those three nights, did the protests get out of hand?

"Some people will say there was rioting going on, whether it meets that legal definition... We're not concerned about that," Creuzot said.

Dallas Police Association President Mike Mata bristles at that suggestion.

"I think it was very disingenuous for him to even tell the public, or attempt to tell the public that what we saw over those three days was not a riot," Mata said.

No police officers have been charged, although at least two were cleared by a grand jury. The statute of limitations on any charges runs out in a little less than six months.
