The Dallas School Board has approved a new $2 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The massive two billion dollar budget is roughly a seven percent increase over last year, and it includes more money for teachers and student transportation.
But the new budget also includes cuts in staff development, social work services and food services.
The district struggled to approve a budget that includes teacher pay raises, a priority of the Superintendent.
School leaders say they are disappointed state lawmakers did not increase the allotment schools receive for each student, that allotment is just over $6,000 per student.
And while student enrollment is down across the district, property values in Dallas are up and that means more money from the state in so-called recaptures.
The Dallas school district estimates this years recapture will be an estimated $240 million.
