Graduating seniors with the Dallas ISD are ending their high school careers the way they always thought they would, pre-pandemic with an in-person graduation ceremony.

Susana Cordova is Deputy Superintendent of Leading and Learning for Dallas ISD. She tells our partners at NBC 5, after a whirlwind year, students need something normal.

“The sense of loss over the last year and a half is really high, and I think these ceremonies bring a sense of normalcy,” Cordova says. “Their junior year was interrupted. Their senior year has been interrupted. And as we were getting ready for graduation, we were really focused on how we could create as much of a normal experience as possible.”

Cordova says the decision to host the graduation ceremonies in-person was made after studying recent COVID-19 trends and CDC guidance. Each graduating senior gets to invite eight guests. Masks are encouraged, not required, and social distancing guidelines will be enforced.

More information on how to watch all Dallas ISD ceremonies virtually can be found here.

The district's entire graduation schedule, as well as additional guidelines, can be found here.
