A Dallas man is locked up on a murder charge connected to a deadly police chase in Garland this week.

At the end of the chase, the car driven by Zayvion Smith crashed, causing the death of one of his passengers, a Dallas teenager.

Garland police claim Smith refused to stop when officers lit him up for a traffic violation.

During the pursuit, his Nissan Altima was seen racing across some DART rail tracks even though the red lights were flashing.

The squad car had to stop for the train and lost sight of the Altima.

After the train passed, the officers went looking for the car and found it had run a red light at Garland Avenue and Avenue B where it slammed into another car.

That second car's driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

In addition to the murder count, additional charges against Smith are expected.
