A Dallas police officer continues to recover in the hospital after being hit by a suspected drunk driver.
Dallas Police say the unidentified officer was on his way home from work early Thursday morning when a suspected drunk driver crashed into him on the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
Dallas Police Sergeant Michael Mata, president of the Dallas Police Association, says the officer suffered serious injuries but is improving.
Police say the driver, 20-year-old Angel Cristobal Navarro, was drunk and driving a stolen vehicle when he was racing with another suspected drunk driver, culminating in the crash that severely injured the officer.
Navarro being held in the Dallas County jail on a $50,000 bond with charges of Accident involving serious bodily injury, Intoxication Assault wtih a vehicle and Unauthorized use of a vehicle along with an "illegal alien" immigration hold.
