The school year has officially begun all throughout DFW, and while that means a few hours of freedom for parents, it also marks the return of school zones.

Road safety near schools is always important, but many often forget to reduce their speed and put away their phones during school zone hours. Now, the Dallas Police Department has announced they have issued over 200 school zone citations since the start of the school year.

Over the weekend, the Dallas Police Department sent out a tweet claiming 244 school zone citations have been issued over the last two weeks. “Due to the increased foot and vehicle traffic around local schools, drivers are reminded to remain alert, refrain from using all electronic communication devices and heed all warning signs when approaching school zones,” the police department said in their tweet.

Police have focused on back-to-school enforcement during the past two school weeks. Many in the area have noticed drivers not slowing down during school zone hours. Hopefully drivers start paying more attention to school zones, or even more tickets will be handed out.
