Police: Officer shot in foot, suspect in critical condition after shooting near Kessler Park

A shooting near Kessler Park has left one man in critical condition, and a Dallas Police officer has been hospitalized.

According to a spokesperson for Dallas Police, a fugitive officer was serving a warrant when the suspect fired shots at the officer near Kessler park on Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:04 p.m. a call for “officer assist” was made via the department’s call log regarding an incident at the Bahama Glen apartments on the west side of Dallas.

A suspect wanted for capital murder was in the passenger seat of a car on the scene, and ignored commands from the fugitive team attempting to apprehend him. The suspect began firing from the vehicle.

The officer returned fire, hitting the suspect. The officer was hit in the foot and transported to a local hospital.

A DPD spokesperson confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.

Police confirm that the suspect is currently in critical condition.
