Dallas Police have released body camera video of an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening near Fair Park. Police were called to reports of a fight on Metropolitan Avenue near Highway 352.
Chief Eddie Garcia said officers arrived and recognized the suspect, Donathy Doddy. He said they had previous encounters with him.
"Officers gave the suspect loud, verbal commands to get his hands off the gun," Garcia said. "Doddy then ran toward the officers, firing his weapon at least two times as he ran in the officers' direction."
Garcia says officers returned fire. He said the officers then gave CPR when the crowd was under control.
Doddy was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:31 p.m., about 30 minutes after the first 911 call.
"Any loss of life is tragic," Garcia said. "This is a tragedy for the family and friends of Donathy Doddy, but it is also a tragedy for our officers who were involved that night."
Garcia said he is releasing body camera video so people could see for themselves what happened.
"Transparency's key," he said. "We're going to show the videos. We're going to show our community what's occurring, what our men and women have to deal with on a day-to-day basis."

Garcia said Doddy, 61, had been arrested twice in August. August 11, Doddy was arrested for display and discharge of a firearm. August 18, he was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Garcia said Doddy posted bond for both charges and was released from Dallas County Jail August 29.
"Witnesses say the suspect had been at the location before and has a history of displaying a weapon and, at times, firing a weapon," Garcia said.
