"The officer was filling up his personal vehicle when he observed an unknown suspect or suspects shoot into a vehicle in which the 16-year-old Larayah Foreman was the front right passenger," Gutierrez says. "The officer followed the suspect vehicle."

He followed it to Longbush Lane, where Gutierrez says they had set up an ambush.

"When the officer approached the suspect's vehicle, the unknown suspects fired several rounds," Gutierrez says. "The officer's vehicle was struck by four rounds, which disabled his vehicle."

The suspects fled the scene, leaving the officer-- who was not injured in the shooting. Foreman was rushed to the hospital, but she did not survive.

Police say the suspects also fired into another vehicle in the area, but didn't injure the driver.
