Dallas Police officials say regulating the operating hours of sex-oriented businesses could curb overnight violent crime. They’re pushing for the city council to pass a proposal that would force those types of businesses to close by 2:00 a.m. and open no earlier than 6:00 a.m.

The council is expected to vote on it today. Some council members have said they’re concerned the regulations are too broad.

The rules would impact adult video, book and novelty stores as well. Others say it would negatively impact jobs.

If Dallas were to implement these kinds of restrictions it wouldn’t be the first North Texas city to do so. Fort Worth, Plano and Grand Prairie all have similar rules in place for sex-oriented businesses.
