Dallas Police say the two-year-old was sitting on the front porch of a home on Royalpine Drive when the coyote attacked.
A responding officer located the coyote and fired shots at it.
The coyote retreated into the woods; it's unknown whether it was struck by any bullets.
Dallas Police and the game warden are actively searching for the coyote.
Those who live nearby are urged to be on alert, as the coyote should be considered extremely dangerous.
