DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - More information has been released about how Dallas Police were able to locate two missing monkeys. The monkeys were found in an empty building in Lancaster. A nearby church which owned the property claim the building had recently been broken into and was filled with wild animals.
A woman who works at the church said when she saw the picture of the man Dallas police wanted to talk to about the monkeys' disappearance she recognized him and called police. The police came to the Lancaster property and checked the abandoned building and found the emperor tamarin monkeys in a closet.
Zoo officials said the monkeys were uninjured but had lost a little bit of weight.
The zoo said they will not return to the habitat for a while because they were taken off zoo property so they will have to be quarantined for a while before they are reintroduced to their Zoo habitat.
No arrests have been made. The zoo said they are increasing the reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case from $10,000 to $25,000.
