DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Getting around town on DART is now much easier, starting today.

DART started operating all GoLink zones today, in preparation for its new bus network which will launch late next month.

While it provides vital first mile/last mile service to and from DART stations, it takes that concept one step further.

"We will actually send out a bus to pick you up from your location and take you either to a DART rail station, another DART bus station, or - depending if you're inside a particular zone - a point-to-point location inside that zone," says Gordon Shattles, DART director of external relations.

GoLink operates in conjunction with the fixed-route service that DART already operates to and from its stations.

"We've identified the zones that don't have the ridership necessary for fixed routes, which are those 40-foot buses," says Shattles. "GoLink serves that purpose by providing access - first mile/last mile - but also for riders who just need to go to the doctor's appointment three blocks over, to go see family (or) to go to the grocery store."

Like the fixed-route service, GoLink is available at no additional charge.

"GoLink is covered under the price of a DART pass," Shattles says.
