The Tarrant County District Attorney is seeking the death penalty against the man suspected of killing and dismembering three people inside a Euless motel.

Jason Thornburg, 41, is charged with capital murder in the deaths of David Lueras, Lauren Phillips and Maricruz Mathis.

Investigators say Thornburg lured the three to his room at the Mid City Inn last September, killed them, dismembered them, and threw their remains in a Fort Worth dumpster and set it on fire.

Thornburg told investigators shortly after his arrest that he was performing a biblical sacrifice on the three.

"The decision on whether or not to seek the death penalty is a crucial decision this office makes," said Sharen Wilson, Tarrant County criminal district attorney. "The death penalty is reserved for the worst of the worst criminals. It is only fitting that we seek the death penalty in this case."

Thornburg is also facing unrelated charges of murder and arson in the May 2021 death of his roommate, Mark Jewell.
