Warming shelters open across North Texas

Warming shelters will open all over North Texas Wednesday night with freezing rain in the forecast and temperatures expected to stay below freezing into Thursday morning.

The city of Denton will open an emergency warming center at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center from 6:30 p.m. Thursday until noon Friday for anyone who needs to get out of the cold.

The shelter will be open 24 hours and the city said it will have restrooms, water fountains, snacks, cots and dog kennels available for anyone who need help getting through the storm.

There will be several warming centers available in Dallas County Wednesday night.

OurCalling will open round the clock possibly through the end of the week, providing approximately 200 men and women who are homeless with protection from the weather.

In Collin County, the Salvation Army will open shelters in McKinney and Plano.
