A 7-year-old found with significant signs of injury was declared deceased yesterday, according to the Denton Police Department in Texas.
Todd Lofton Shaw, 52, has been arrested in connection to the incident. He was dating the child’s mother, according to authorities.

According to the Denton police, units were dispatched to the 1600 block of E. McKinney St. at approximately 7:29 p.m. Friday in response to reports of an unconscious person.
“The caller reported that a child inside of the residence was having a medical emergency,” said police. “Medics arrived on scene to transport the child to a local hospital, and notified officers that the child had suspicious and extensive injuries. The child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”
Detectives began an investigation at the McKinney Street scene with a warrant. Investigators searched the residence where the child lived with their mother and Shaw. Both the mother and Shaw were also interviewed.
“At the conclusion of the interviews, the mother’s boyfriend was arrested for Injury to a Child,” said the Denton Police Department. Prior to the incident, the department had not had any history with Shaw, said a statement.
“It is heartbreaking that the death of this child occurred on the first day of National Child Abuse Prevention Month,” the statement said.
