Denton police just broke a record, and it’s not a good one.
This week, the Denton Police Department made its 800th DWI arrest. That’s the highest number of DWI arrests they’ve ever made in a single calendar year, with the closest being 711 in 2019.

Police Liaison Amy Cunningham says at the time, that number was considered outrageously high. Now, it’s been surpassed, and the year isn’t even over.
"There are always numerous DWI arrests that take place around the holidays," Cunningham says. "We absolutely encourage people to not drink and drive, to make good decisions. Plan ahead."
She says if you’re on the road and you see someone else you think might be intoxicated, you should let police know.
