DFW schools growing more concerned about COVID-19 spread

The school year is off to a difficult start, with some larger North Texas districts, including Arlington and Garland, already reporting hundreds of lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in students.

Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council President/CEO Stephen Love told KRLD the area's pediatric hospitals were at about 94% of capacity as of Thursday morning, with "single-digit" ICU beds available for children.

Along with a growing number of COVID cases, the hospitals are also treating more children with the RSV respiratory virus.

Overall, Love said the number of North Texas patients hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to rise.  That figure now stands around 2,900.  Nearly 20% of the current hospital population is made up of patients being treated for the coronavirus.
