When flooding destroyed a man's home, his neighbors were the first to step up to help. Here's this week's KRLD Difference Maker.

When several inches of rain fell in August for the first time in weeks, the homes of many North Texans were severely damaged, including the home of Nolen Williams.

"The property that he lives in, just outside of Seagoville inside Dallas county, got flooded really badly," said Keri Sanders. "The place that he was living, which is a 5th wheel RV, was impacted. He can only use the front of the RV. He can't use the back, which is the bedroom and the bathroom."

Sadly, Nolen was one of many neighbors that dealt with major damage, but Nolen faces unique challenges because he has relatively no family nearby, and is a senior citizen who is disabled.

Neighbors like Keri immediately stepped in to help.

"A few of us came together and decided that we would chip in with our time and money and build him a small house," Keri said.

And that's despite the fact that none of them work in construction. Keri, for one, works in IT. For his part, he's launched a website where people can donate and they are tracking progress.

"We are reaching out to people that know how to do these things, you know, professionals volunteering their time. We've all dabbled in building things and we just felt like we could do it," said Keri. "We still have quite a road ahead of us with plumbing and installing a shower that we've never done, but youtube is a great tool!"

It's a community effort to help someone in need. We're proud to call Keri Sanders and neighbors this week's KRLD Difference Makers.

"We're his friends and friends need to help friends," Keri said.
