FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Downtown buildings in Fort Worth will once again turn their lights off in the middle of the night.

Starting Sunday night, City Center Fort Worth will be dimming all non-essential lights from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. inside and outside all of its buildings, including the Bank of America and the Wells Fargo towers.

Just like when they did this in the spring, the purpose is to protect migrating birds.

"Lights pointed upward have the effect of disorienting them or confusing them during the migratory path during the main period," says Johnny Campbell, president and CEO of City Center Management.

Other businesses and even homeowners can also do their part in protecting migrating birds.

"Lights that are turned upward, blinds that can be closed during those periods in the evenings, and all non-essential lights on the outside of our homes can be shielded from this upward light pollution," says Campbell.
