Many in DFW have complained about the return of e-scooters to the streets of Dallas in recent months, and now the city will be getting another form of transportation that may stir up some polarization. It was recently announced that driverless rideshare vehicles are expected to be operating in Dallas by the end of this year.

California-based Cruise, a driverless rideshare company, recently announced plans to expand to Dallas after a successful launch in Austin earlier this year. The company is a General Motors subsidiary that has a fleet of 300 Chevy Bolts ready to hit the streets of Dallas “within a few months,” said Megan Prichard, the company’s vice president of ridehail. According to D Magazine, Cruise will be targeting areas of Dallas with pedestrian traffic and active nightlife.

“The whole car is your own space. You can sing along to your own music or take a nap,” said Pritchard. All of their vehicles are monitored for safety 24 hours a day by a command center in Phoenix. Soon, DFW passengers won’t have to worry about having an awkward conversation with their rideshare driver anymore.
