Some people had quite the unusual encounter in southwest Fort Worth.

Elizabeth Smith and Heath Welch were in their respective vehicles driving on the Chisholm Trail Parkway Tuesday night when they noticed something out of the ordinary.

"10:15 at night and there's camels and longhorns and cows and donkeys," Smith told KRLD, "and they're all just running around the tollway."

"You're just kind of in shock or in awe," added Welch.

Welch said his main concern was not for his vehicle, in case one of these animals came charging towards it.

"I was worried more about the animals getting them out of the way," Welch said, "so other people didn't hit him so they didn't get injured."

So Welch sprung into action and helped the NTTA capture one of the calves.

"I cut my truck out in front of the calf up against the guard rail there," Welch said, "and I got out and just wrangled it."

Smith said she had to capture the moment.

"It was wild," Smith said. "I had to take a picture because I knew nobody would believe me."

Fort Worth Police say they're still looking for whoever owns these animals, but they say it's unlikely that any charges will be filed.

Welch does have one burning question.

"I just want to know if the camel paid their toll bill."
