DFW area hospitals have been in a plateau when it comes to COVID-19 cases but virus experts say that’s changing, and not for the better.

Stephen Love, President of the DFW Hospital council says when it comes to COVID-19 cases in North Texas, the numbers are once again headed in the wrong direction.

The number of hospitalizations had leveled out for awhile, but now Love says it appears to be going up again. He says there are 500 COVID-19 patients in DFW hospitals, that’s the highest number in 2 weeks.

"The virus is still out there, don't let your guard down" said Love.

Love adds that at this same time last year there were a similar number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals in North Texas.

According to the latest state the numbers of COVID-19 patients in the region, they only make up about three percent of total capacity.

And Love says he’s not sounding an alarm, however he says it serves as a reminder about the importance of getting vaccinated.

On Wednesday Dallas County reported 209 new coronavirus cases yesterday and 5 deaths. Tarrant County says 136 new cases were confirmed along with 2 additional deaths.

Denton County reported 116 new cases and 4 deaths, while 111 new cases were confirmed in Collin County, but there were no additional deaths there.
